About a year ago, we decided to spice up our sex life by incorporating sex toys. It started as a slow burn, but after 3-4 months things started picking up speed and we found ourselves buying new sex toys on a weekly basis.

But then one night we were looking for a very specific-shaped dildo, and after several hours of searching just couldn’t find anything that suited our needs. After sorting through multiple anonymous foreign retailers on Amazon, questionable products on domestic sites, and expensive products with poor reviews – we realized that the customer search experience was awful.
Meet The Sex Toy Nerds
He is a computer programmer and data scientist by day. She is a freelance photographer and visual designer. Together, they are the Sex Toy Nerds.
Not one to take a problem lying down (but up for taking other things lying down), we decided this was a problem we could solve ourselves. Never mind real problems like world hunger or global warming – we decided our best way to contribute is by reviewing sex toys.
But hey, people deserve to have amazing orgasms. And we believe that online sex toy retailers do their best to prevent that by selling crappy products with an emphasis on marketing over engineering.
How We Review Sex Toys
In general, we look a couple of main criteria when reviewing sex toys. We end up giving each toy a simplified rating out of 10, but we consider each of the following when coming up with this rating:
- Materials and Craftsmanship: How well is the toy built? Are the materials 100% body safe? Does it hold up to serious sexy time?
- Function and Features: Does the toy do what it’s supposed to do? Does it contribute to better orgasms? What special features set this toy apart?
- Options and Aesthetics: Are there multiple sizes or colors available? Does they toy look and feel sexy?
- Cost: How much does this toy cost compared to similar toys? Is it markedly cheaper or more expensive?
- Manufacturer Reputation: Does the maker offer good customer support? Do they stand by their products and respect their buyers?
There’s more nuance to it, but that’s the general gist of how we find the best sex toys for you.

Look, we need to be honest – we do make money off of some of our recommendations on this site. These are called affiliate referrals, and they’re how we keep the lights on.
