Metal butt plugs can be an exciting step in your relationship with sex toys because they offer a number of benefits that can’t be had with other materials like silicone (hardness, weight, temperature).
That said, body-safe metal sex toys are often quite expensive vs silicone toys of the same size. And there are some unsafe metal plugs out there claiming to be stainless steel, when they’re really a cheap heavy metal with chrome plating.
Given the above two factors:
You really want to be sure you’re buying the right plug in the right size for your experience level.
We’ve sorted through all the popular aluminum and steel anal plugs out there and distilled our findings to this list to bring you the best of the best for a variety of use cases.
We’ve got a lot to cover – let’s get to it!
Table of Contents
A Quick Introduction to Metal Butt Plugs
Let’s look at some of the best benefits of buying a metal butt plug:
Firmness
Metal sex toys don’t have any give like rubbery silicone toys. This means that a given steel plug might feel ~1/4 of an inch bigger than same sized silicone toys.
This firmness also means you can be more exact with pressure on your prostate or g-spot for mind-blowing orgasms.
Weight
Stainless steel plugs are very dense (aluminum not so much), and as a result even smaller plugs can feel quite heavy for their size. Some users have complained that this makes their steel butt plugs too heavy, but we generally see this as a positive.
Heavier butt plugs bounce and provide more stimulation when worn during sex (or extended public wear), as the plug will bounce around and provide some nice sensations as you move.
Be aware that weight is a more important factor to consider with metal toys than similar size silicone toys.
Extended Wear
Metal butt plugs are one of the best options for long-term and all-day wear, as metal toys can be used with silicone lube.
Silicone lube is much longer lasting than water-based lubricants, so you won’t need to reapply as often throughout the day. Silicone lube cannot be used with silicone sex toys, so this is a definite plus for steel and aluminum anal toys.
Just make sure the neck on your plug isn’t too wide, as the firmness of the metal can get uncomfortable over time if too thick. And, unless you’re feeling confident, aluminum plugs are generally better suited to long-term wear because they’re much lighter than stainless steel.
Temperature Play
Steel toys conduct temperature much better than silicone, and as such they provide a range of additional stimulation. Even at room temperature they feel cool and exciting upon insertion, and will gradually warm up to body temp after a few minutes of play.
You can also cool them in the fridge or place in some warm water to heat up for even more temperature play options.
Choose Your Base
This isn’t specific to metal butt plugs, but we need to talk about it. Anything you put inside your ass you have an appropriate base to prevent the toy from getting lost in your ass during sex.
Yes, this really happens. More commonly than you might think. In general, there are 3 types of bases on butt plugs:
- Circular base – most likely to get pulled in during sex, but also is the best for double penetration.
- T-base –Â can’t get pulled inside you due to the wide base.
- O-ring base – like the T-base, but with the added benefit of being easy to grab with lubed-up fingers.
Here’s a visual guide to butt plug bases:
Alright now that you’re primed about the basics of what makes a great metal sex toy, let’s look at some of the best steel and aluminum butt plugs for sale in 2020.

Max Girth: 1″, 1.25″, 1.5″, 2″

nJoy is the gold standard… or rather, steel standard when it comes to the best metal butt plugs out there.
And for good reason – their entire lineup of anal sex toys is made from the highest quality 100% stainless steel on the market, and the nJoy Pure Plug is one of their flagship products.
They also have a good variety of other stainless steel toys, and have a great reputation as a seller that stands by their products.
nJoy Pure Plugs come in 4 sizes:
wdt_ID | Size | Length | Girth | Weight | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Small | 2.25 | 1.00 | 5 | 65 |
2 | Medium | 2.50 | 1.25 | 7 | 75 |
3 | Large | 2.75 | 1.50 | 11 | 85 |
4 | 2.0 XL | 3.50 | 2.00 | 21 | 120 |
All 4 have the same basic shape – a sharply tapered bulb, with a thin, tapered neck, capped off with an ergonomic pull ring.
We don’t like glass butt plugs with pull rings because they could break off inside you, but there’s no fear with this design on metal butt plugs. We also love that the nJoy Pure Plugs are easy to slide in and out – even with lubed up, slippery fingers.
And the weight! Stainless steel is heavy, which allows the plug to bounce around a bit for some extra sensations as you wear it.
Pros:
- 4 sizes: means you can find the perfect sized butt plug for your experience level.
- P-spot: The bulb on the end is great for prostate stimulation, and helps the plug sit snugly in place for extended wear.
- Unique Sensations: Made of the highest quality steel – great for heating & cooling for temperature play, and weight you will definitely feel.
- O-Ring Base: The pull ring makes it easy to grip the plug while inserting into your (or your partner’s) ass.
Cons:
- High build quality means higher price… it’s more expensive than a similar sized silicone plug
- The small plug is quite small – may want to size up quickly.
- If wearing for long-term plugging, the pull ring can stick out slightly if you’re very petite or have a flat butt
Pure Plug: Final Review
The nJoy Pure Plug is the #1 metal butt plug on the market. It has been for years, and we don’t predict a better metal butt plug coming out any time soon.
It provides some amazing sensations (weight & hardness) vs silicone butt plug, and looks sleek and sexy with the polished steel and satin storage case.
Best Metal Prostate Plug: nJoy Pfun Prostate Plug
Our Rating: 8.0 /10
Price: $65
Insertable Length:Â 3.5″
Max Girth:Â 1.25″
Materials: 100% Stainless Steel
Features:Â Angled prostate stimulation bulb, O-ring base for easy gripping
Colors:
Another great product from nJoy in the metal plugs category.
The Pfun prostate plug combines the high quality stainless steel nJoy is known for, with a little more depth which makes it ideal for hitting the p-spot. The O-ring handle, added to the 2 contoured bulbs makes it a fantastic toy for both sliding in and out and stimulating your asshole, while also giving the necessary depth for proper prostate stimulation.
Pros:
- Extra length compared to standard butt plugs, combined with angled bulb makes this anal plug ideal for hitting and stimulating the prostate.
- 2nd bulb and O-ring handle make it easy to stimulate your asshole by pulling in/out.
- Great active play toy for p-spot stimulation thanks to the firmness of the stainless steel.
Cons:
- Awkward size; smaller than most prostate wands, but longer than a standard butt plug.
- Not as well suited for long-term wear as a standard butt plug (it moves around due to the weight and the neck is too small).
Pfun plug: Final Review
The Pfun is a fantastic prostate stimulating butt plug, although due to it’s small(er) size, it does kind of fall in a weird spot in the larger market of sex toys. It’s definitely better as a targeted prostate massager than a standard butt plug.
And with that said, the Pfun is one of the absolute best stainless steel prostate stimulators on the market.
It benefits from all the upside of using stainless steel as a material, and the thoughtful design and engineering by nJoy really shows. We wish it came in a slightly larger size, but I suppose at that point you just want the Pure Wand.
Best Metal Jewel Plug: Rosebud Cristal Plugs
Our Rating: 9.4 / 10

Rosebud Cristal jewel butt plugs are our favorite option for high-end, luxurious metal butt plugs. These amazing plugs are available in both stainless steel and anodized aluminum, for a variety of weights and color options.
There are also over 20 colors for the gemmed base, which means the total number of color combinations is off the charts!
Here are the various plug size measurements ranging from tiny, to massively large (and heavy):

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Small | Stainless Steel | Silver | 1.70 | 1.0 | 3.0 | 65 |
2 | Medium | Stainless Steel | Silver | 2.40 | 1.2 | 6.0 | 75 |

7 | Medium | Anodized Aluminum | Red, Grey, Gold, Black, Purple | 2.40 | 1.2 | 2.4 | 55 |
8 | Large | Anodized Aluminum | Red, Grey, Gold, Black, Purple | 3.30 | 1.4 | 3.7 | 65 |
9 | X Large | Anodized Aluminum | Red, Grey, Gold, Black, Purple | 3.75 | 1.6 | 5.4 | 75 |
Pros:
- 5 sizes ranging from 1″ wide to 2″inches wide means there’s a jeweled butt plug for every experience level
- Steel or aluminum: aluminum is slightly cheaper, lighter, and available in anodized colors
- Over 20 jewel colors for the Swarovski crystal end cap, which gives it the most color options of any anal toy we’ve reviewed!
- The heavy weight of the stainless steel anal plugs is great for double penetration stimulation during sex
- Long-term wear: M and L sizes are ideal for extended wear
Cons:
- You’re paying more for visual appeal than pure performance as a toy
- The XL and XXL plugs are truly heavy, and can be quite the workout trying to hold them in for any length of time (might be a pro)
- As with all princess plugs, be careful of smaller sizes getting pulled into your ass
Rosebuds Cristal: Final Review
If you have a specific size and color combination in mind, Rosebuds offers unmatched variety and selection. Not to mention top-notch materials quality and an elegant sparkling crystal, and you have a high quality anal toy.
The weight of the stainless steel and basic bulb shape makes these butt plugs ideal for additional stimulation during sex. The Medium and Large sizes are also an ideal blend of size and weight for extended wear out and about.
We love the options and variety available here, and can’t think of a better quality princess plug on the market.

Honorable Mention: HAKA Stainless Steel Crystal Plugs
Our Rating: 8.5 / 10
Price: $80 – $ 115
Insertable Length:Â 2.75″, 3.5″, 3.75″
Max Girth:Â 1.125″, 1.375″, 1.5″
Materials: 100% Stainless Steel
Features:Â Genuine Swarovski crystal
Colors:
You’ll see these HAKA stainless steel butt plugs around the internet under a few names (e.g. Sparkle Plugs, Pretty Plugs), but the core manufacturer is HAKA and they mean business!
This is a fairly standard butt plug shape, with a single sharply tapered bulb capped off with an elegant Swarovski crystal (available in multiple colors) at the flared base.
Pros:
- Thin neck makes them comfortable for long-term wear (or leaving in to surprise your partner with)
- Genuine Swarovski crystal means this butt plug is truly anal jewelry
- Available in 3 sizes for beginner, intermediate, or advanced anal play
Cons:
- Somewhat expensive, for a rather basic-shaped anal toy
- Not as many size, color, or price options as the Rosebuds Cristal plugs above.
Final Review:
Stainless steel princess plugs are best suited for couples or those looking to play with a partner. Most of the cost is for aesthetics and visuals – there’s nothing revolutionary going on in the shape or toy design to help you get off or have a better orgasm.
That said, they’re truly luxurious anal toys that can add a level of visual kink to your sexy time. GoodVibes Sparkle Plugs may not be cheap – but when it comes to luxury and looking good, they can’t be beat.
Best Aluminum Plug: Crowned Jewels Upminster
Our Rating: 8.4 / 10
Price: $50 – $70, $150+
Insertable Length:Â 2.4″, 2.7″, 3″
Max Girth:Â 1.15″, 1.35″, 1.5″
Materials: 100% Aluminum
Features: Flared silicone base
Colors:
For something a little different… the Crowned Jewels Upminster butt plugs are ideal plugs for extended or all-day wear.
Aluminum offers some of the same benefits as stainless steel: namely the firmness of a metal toy, and the exciting temperature changing benefits that come with the material.
However aluminum is much lighter than steel, which means these toys offer a unique combination of extreme hardness, while being relatively lightweight.
Crowned Jewels Upminster plugs come in 3 standard sizes:
wdt_ID | Size | Ins. Length | Max Girth | Weight | Colors | price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Classic | 2.4 | 1.15 | 3.0 | Silver | 50 |
2 | Grande | 2.7 | 1.35 | 3.6 | Silver | 60 |
3 | Royale | 3.0 | 1.50 | 4.6 | Silver | 70 |
4 | Classic (titanium) | 2.4 | 1.15 | 3.0 | Blue Gold Magenta |
150 |
The Upminster butt plugs also come in a premium titanium version, which can then be anodized for dramatic color effects. These anodized versions aren’t cheap, but they sure are spectacular to look at.
All the Crowned Jewels butt plugs come with a soft circular base made of flexible silicone, which is extremely comfortable when combined with the tapered neck on the butt plugs.
Pros:
- Aluminum: Made of high grade polished aluminum, with many of the same benefits of stainless steel
- Extended wear: Much lighter weight and soft circular base makes the Upminster ideal for long term wear
- Color options: Anodized titanium color options look truly spectacular
- Multiple sizes: 3 sizes in a fairly standard range from 1.15″ wide to 1.5″ wide
Cons:
- Light weight also loses some of the ‘bounce’ and movement enjoyed with heavier steel anal plugs
- Colored anodized titanium plugs are quite expensive
Final Review:
The Crown Jewels Upminster aluminum anal plugs are a breath of fresh air compared to all the regular steel anal toys out there. The lighter weight means they’re comfortable for daily wear, and the silicone base sits snugly in place.
You do lose some of the extra stimulation that comes with the weight of a stainless steel butt plug moving inside you, but all in all these are great anal toys that are supremely comfortable for all-day wear.
Best Metal Prostate Massager: Aneros Tempo
Our Rating: 8.0 / 10
Price: $70
Insertable Length: 3.75″
Max Girth:Â .85″
Materials: 100%Â Stainless Steel
Features: Prostate stimulation bulb and rippled shaft
Colors:
Similar to the Pfun prostate plug above, the Aneros Tempo is another half anal plug, half prostate stimulation wand.
It’s not really a butt plug per se – more of an active wand-like toy. But the T-base means you can leave it in for longer periods of time if you so choose.
There are a lot of benefits to getting the classic Aneros design and engineering in stainless steel. Namely, you get intense firm pressure control on your prostate, with the ribbed neck adding additional stimulation while inserting or removing.
Pros:
- Gives strong pressure and prostate stimulation with the steel firmness combined with the bulb-shaped tip
- Intensely stimulating while sliding in and out for targeted prostate stimulation
- Retains temperature changes well for exciting temperature play
Cons:
- Not long enough to reach the prostate on taller or bigger men (taller than 5′ 10″ or so)
- Base is not big enough to leave in for extended periods of time
- On the small side for a full prostate stimulator, but on the long side for a true butt plug
Final Review:
There’s definitely some “1 + 1 = 3” magic going on with the Aneros Tempo stainless steel prostate plug. Any other toy of that size at that price point would be a fairly bad deal. But anyone that’s used an Aneros p-spot massager can vouch for the quality and powerful prostate orgasms.
But there’s something about the temperature changes and firmness of the stainless steel, combined with the precise engineering and high quality Aneros is known for.
Best Stainless Steel Tail Plug: Rosebuds Horse Tail Anal Plug
Our Rating: 9.1 /10
Price: $100 – 120
Insertable Length: 2.75″, 3.3″, 3.75″
Max Girth:Â 1.2″, 1.4″, 1.6″
Materials: 100% stainless steelÂ
Features: Genuine 13″ horse hair tail
Colors:
If you’re into any kind of pony or animal roleplay, these Rosebuds stainless steel horse tail butt plugs are one of the best products available. They’re the same high quality stainless steel we saw above with Rosebuds jeweled butt plugs. The only difference is 13 inches of high quality, genuine horse hair firmly attached via a luxurious brass ornament.
Pros:
- Available in 3 sizes (M, L, and XL) and 4 different tail colors (black, brown, blonde, and grey)
- Top quality materials: plug made of pure stainless steel and tail made of 100% genuine horse hair
- Steel construction gives these plugs a primal, animalistic feeling and weight that you don’t get with lighter, rubbery toys
Cons:
- Quite expensive and somewhat of a specialty item so ordering may be difficult
- Tails are 13″ long – if you want a longer tail, you can only get it in size M and black
Final Review:
We’re not particularly into horse play, but there’s just a lot these Rosebud horse tail butt plugs do well. The high quality of materials, the variety of color and size options, and the overall feeling these plugs give when worn.
If pony play is your kink, then these steel tail butt plugs are about the best possible bang for your buck.

Best Ribbed Metal Plug: Rouge Threaded Gem Plug
Our Rating: 7.8 / 10
Price: $45
Insertable Length: 2″, 2.75″, 3.5″
Max Girth: 1″, 1.15″, 1.4″
Materials: Stainless Steel
Features: Colored gem base, ribbed bulb for added stimulation
Colors:
This threaded butt plug from Rouge is a refreshing change of pace compared to all the other smooth plugs on this list.
The hardness of the steel ensures you really feel each ripple. Although we prefer the medium and large sizes because the small is just so tiny, unless you’re a relative anal sex beginner.
And it’s one of the best budget options on this list since most of the other stainless steel plugs will run $60+.
The gemmed base isn’t as high quality as the HAKA plugs or Rosebuds collection (it’s not real crystal), but we still think it’s plenty sexy and comes in 6 color options.
Rouge also makes a standard smooth butt plug if the rippled, threaded texture isn’t your favorite.
Pros:
- Ribbed or smooth: The threaded bulb provides extra sensations while sliding into your ass
- 6 colored gems to choose from for the base (green, blue, purple, red, yellow, and clear)
- Budget friendly: Great price point for a stainless steel toy
Cons:
- Small plug is quite small, even for the more petite users out there
- Not as luxurious as the high end metal butt plugs
Rouge Gem Plugs: Final Review
All in all, this threaded steel butt plug is a great first metal anal toy. We love the extra ripples in the bulb of the plug – combined with the weight and hardness of the stainless steel, they felt really amazing.
And you can get it in the standard ‘smooth spade’ shape if you just want an affordable steel jewel plug.
And at just $45 it’s a great budget option if you’re in the market for a 100% stainless steel butt plug.
Best Beginner Metal Butt Plug: Master Series Petite Spade Jewel Plug
Our Rating:Â 5.4 / 10
Price: $20
Insertable Length: 2.5″
Max Girth:Â 1.15″
Materials: Anodized aluminumÂ
Features: Clear decorative gem at the base
Colors:
We’re officially still on the fence on this toy because it sets off a lot of our red flags and we haven’t had the chance to test it in person yet.
Namely, it seems a little too good to be true in the price point, and we see several variants of this same plug show up on different Amazon storefronts.
It is believable that body safe aluminum could be made this cheaply – it’s definitely a step up in price compared to the awful chrome plated anal toys out there.
Since we have no reason to believe this isn’t the real deal, we wanted to include it as a budget option for those looking to dip their toes into the world of metal butt plugs.
Pros:
- Budget friendly: Unbeatable price point for any body safe metal toy
- Color options: Anodized pink or black gives some nice variety compared to all the standard polished silver
- Silicone lube: Light weight and use with silicone lube makes for comfortable extended wear
Cons:
- 2.5″ insertable and 1.15″ wide means this is a pretty darn small plug, and may not add much additional stimulation based on size or girth.
- Narrow base means there is risk of it getting pulled into your rectum during sex or long-term wear.
Final Review:
Again, take this recommendation with a grain of salt as we haven’t personally tried this toy. At the same time, it has universally great reviews and does seem to be made of body safe aluminum, so it is a viable option for someone looking for a safe metal toy on a budget.
We’d like to see a wider base and more size options, but it’s a great metal anal plug for less than $30.
Metal Butt Plug FAQs
How do metal butt plugs compare to silicone?
Unlike silicone, stainless steel and aluminum have no ‘give’ to the material. This means an equivalent sized metal plug is going to feel a bit larger than a silicone plug.
Silicone is also preferred for longer plugs, as silicone bends and contours with your body. That said, the firmness of metal plugs means they’re great for prostate stimulation. Metal can also be heated or cooled for temperature play.
What’s a good size for a first butt plug?
It varies on a lot of factors, but we generally recommend between 1″ – 1.5″ diameter, and err on the side of a bit smaller since metal plugs feel thicker than traditional ones. Between 2.5″ – 4″ insertable is a reasonable length for a first anal toy.
What kind of lube should I use?
Metal butt plugs have the advantage of being compatible with every kind of lube – silicone, water-based, or oils. Since water based oils dry out quickly and are best for silicone toys, we generally recommend a silky silicone lube. But your standard bottle of water-based will still work just fine. Check out our anal sex lube guide for more info.
How do I wash and clean a steel butt plug?
Metal toys are also super easy to clean – simply scrub with warm, soapy water and dry. Or you can even put them in the top rack of your dishwasher (although be careful of plugs with special attachments like a jeweled base).
The one caveat is to not scrub with anything too abrasive, as you don’t want to create tiny grooves and scratches that can eventually harbor bacteria.
What’s the best base for a metal butt plug?
A T-base is generally the safest for all anal toys, as it’s impossible to pull up inside your anus. Less common, but even better is an O-ring base like nJoy uses on their steel butt plugs.
However, circular bases are much more common, and have the benefit of not getting in the way of double penetration. As long as your butt plug has a big enough circular base you’ll be fine. A good rule of thumb is to make sure the base is wider than the maximum width of your toy.
Are metal butt plugs good for beginners?
If you know what you’re shopping for, then sure. That said, quality metal toys are expensive and you want to be sure to get the size and dimensions right. We generally recommend buying a couple of basic silicone toys before upgrading to a luxe metal butt plug.
A Disclaimer: Read This Before Buying A Metal Butt Plug Online
We hate to have to include boring talk like this but we’d be irresponsible if we didn’t. The quick fact of the matter is: there are a lot of cheap, dangerous metal sex toys on the market. All body safe metal sex toys are going to be somewhat expensive, and you really do get what you pay for.
It may be tempting to compare two similar-looking butt plugs and choose the one that is half the price, but when it comes to metal sex toy materials you can’t afford to skimp on safety. As we covered in our detailed safe sex toy materials cheat sheet, the only safe metals are 100% stainless steel or high quality aluminum.
Any metal butt plug made of the following metals is NOT safe:
- Chrome-plated steel
- Copper
- Nickel
- Zinc
- Ambiguous “metal”
The problem with metal sex toys isn’t quite the same as with other sex toy materials. All of these listed metals are non-porous and anti-bacterial, so they won’t harbor unsafe bacteria (which is a problem with some plastic materials like PVC).
The main problem with materials like copper, zinc, or chrome is that these heavy metals can leech out of the toy, and absorb through your anal lining.
This is particularly true if you’re planning on leaving your plug in all day or overnight – you really don’t want heavy metals leeching into your rectum for hours at a time. Best case scenario is a rash and some discomfort; worst case scenario is a hefty medical bill and a lengthy recovery.
Heavy metal poisoning is a real thing, and it’s a hefty price to pay because you couldn’t be bothered to spend an additional $30 on a quality stainless steel butt plug.
All the toys we recommend above are made of 100% body safe materials, and as such are the only metal butt plugs we’d recommend to a sex toy buyer on any budget, no matter how limited.
If you can’t afford a high quality metal anal toy, then you really shouldn’t be buying one at all. Please be responsible and make safe choices about your body.
Metal Butt Plugs to Avoid
Here are some of the most popular metal butt plugs that we believe are low quality, potentially harmful, and NOT recommended.
AK Store 3 pc. Jeweled Princess Plugs
There are a lot of jeweled princess plugs with this general design at this price point. We singled out this particular Amazon store because it’s one of the most popular items with fairly high ratings and 100 customer reviews. It seems like a great anal sex toy, and the product description and reviews wouldn’t suggest anything is off.
But, this basic model princess butt plug is made by one or two manufacturers in China, and sold in cheap sex toy stores or Amazon drop-shipping storefronts looking to make a quick buck. The fact is that chrome-plated steel is not the same as 100% stainless steel, and not all chrome is equal.
These are likely cheap, low-quality chrome plating jobs and plenty of reviews out there suggest that it’s pretty common to see chrome flakes chip off in your asshole.
Furthermore, who knows what the quality of the underlying metal is – chances are many of these contain heavy metals like nickel, zinc, or copper that can leech into your rectum and cause health issues.
If you choose to ignore our numerous warnings and still try to save money by purchasing a cheap chrome-plated toy, then at the very least be sure to check it for flakes and scratches before every use, and be sure to store it in a soft case or pouch between uses.
So one more time, go ahead and say it with us:
Chrome-plated metal is not the same as 100% stainless steel, and is not guaranteed body-safe.
