Philosophical question for the ages: at what point does a dildo become a vibrator, and vice-versa?
In our minds, a vibrating dildo is a toy that’s phallic and focused on pure penetration first. Whereas a vibrator is a toy that primarily gives pleasure on the strength of its vibrations, and penetrates as an afterthought.
In that regard, most vibrating dildos have rather weak vibrations, as they usually lack dedicated motors and vibrate through the assistance of a removable bullet vibe.
So in that sense, the FunFactory Big Boss G5 is probably a vibrator first and dildo second, although it performs admirably as either.
For starters, it’s got a powerful internal motor with 6 intensity settings and 6 vibration patterns. But it also has a very soft, phallic dildo shape, and en ergonomic grip ring that allows you to thrust with it without using the vibrations.
This means it’s a great g-spotting toy as you can target your erogenous zones with pure thrusting action, powerful vibrations, or a bit of both. It can also double as an external clit vibrator in a pinch due to the strength of the vibrations.
All in all it’s a very versatile toy, and that makes it our pick for best overall vibrating dildo in our comprehensive dildo guide.

- Powerful vibrations: 6 speeds and intensities for a wide variety of stimulation
- Ergonomic grip ring: great for solo use or use on your partner - even with slippery, lubed up fingers. Great for thrusting motion from a variety of grips.
- Soft texture: the Big Boss G5 is soft enough to have some give, but no so soft that it dampens the vibrations
- Internal or external: can be used for g-spot or clitoral stimulation equally effectively
- Hands only: no base for harness compatibility or suction cup to stick to a smooth surface. Like we said - vibrator first, dildo second.
- One size: may be too thick and girthy for a relative beginner.
- Price: it's not cheap, but high powered vibrators usually are a bit pricey due to the internals of the toy.

A powerful vibrator and soft dildo, all in one
As we mentioned in the intro, the FunFactory Big Boss G5 is a highly versatile toy that can be used in several ways:
- A purely internal G-spot vibrator
- An external clitoral vibrator
- A manual wand-like thrusting dildo
And unlike so many other vibrating dildos, this thing has POWER.
Many dildos rely on the strength of a removable bullet vibe, which has a couple of problems:
- Bullet vibes aren’t usually as strong as toys with a dedicated internal motor
- Bullet vibes are inserted into the base of a dildo, meaning the vibrations get weaker toward the tip of the shaft
- The silicone in soft, fleshy dildos often dampens vibrations (this is why many bullets are made of metal or firm ABS plastic)
The Big Boss gets over these problems with its own powerful internal vibrator located toward the end of the shaft, meaning it’s great for targeting vibrations exactly where you want them.
And FunFactory is known for making some of the stronger standard vibrators on the market.
We included several of their vibes in our best vibrators guide due to how strong the vibrations are. The big Boss shares the same internals as some of these popular vibes (Miss Bi Rabbit, Volta tongue vibe), meaning it’s sure to please.
The Big Boss G5 also has a firm core (for housing the vibrating unit), surrounded by a sheath of medium-soft silicone. This means you get a lot of the softness of a full silicone dildo, without sacrificing strength of vibrations. It definitely has some squish to it, although it’s not going to be as soft as a good dual density realistic dildo.
It’s worth noting that FunFactory’s silicone – while very soft and silky – has a tendency to dry out with use. Meaning this vibrating dildo works best when coupled with a high quality water-based lube. And keep in mind you may need to reapply during use for best results.
Great even without the vibrations
The Big Boss is also a fantastic penetrating and thrusting toy, even without the powerful vibrations.
First off, the size:
As you can see, Big Boss lives up to its name, at just shy of 7 inches insertable and a relatively girthy 1.8 inch wide shaft.
That means it’s plenty long enough to do some serious manual thrusting action, and thick enough to give you a good stretch and feeling of fullness.
The grip ring is also super helpful to really get some good leverage on the toy for thrusting use. It’s great for slippery, wet fingers, although not quite as ergonomic as something like a curved wand like the Pure Wand.
That said, due to the size (and power of vibrations, and price tag), it’s not really a beginner’s toy. The Big Boss is best for intermediate or advanced users who know what they’re looking for in a vibrating dildo and want something a little bigger and more powerful than your average vibrator.
The price isn’t cheap – but as we always say, you get what you pay for in the sex toy industry, and in this case you get a hell of a lot.
Big Boss G5: Final Review
If you’re looking for a versatile vibrating dildo that works equally well as a pure vibrator OR a dildo, the FunFactory Big Boss is about as good as it gets.
It’s not cheap, it’s not a beginner’s toy, and you’ll want to use some additional water-based lube with it.
But it’s more than strong enough for some amazing orgasms so matter how you prefer to use it, and well worth the price tag in our opinion.
